host wordpress myself or use wordpress.com?

I have a wordpress blog, which I installed myself with my hosting provider. It runs great, almost never have any problem with it. However, I get sick of updating wordpress again and again. For some reason I cannot get the autoupgrade feature working, in that you only have to click a button and let the wordpress software do the work for you, so I have to download and extract all the files and then use FTP to upload them, careful not to break anything.

So I registered for a wordpress blog at wordpress.com. This however has it's disadvantages too: you cannot tweak the theme of your choice (I changed the footer to include a CC license on my blog) and you cannot put a JavaScript widget in your blog (I have some photo's to show you all, which you can also buy!). Of course you can't show any ads, although no one ever clicks on them, so that's not really a disadvantage, or use Google Analytics for statistics (since that is also a JavaScript).

So I'm not quite sure what I'm gonna do: continue hosting it myself or make the move to wordpress.com. The money is not really the problem: I now pay 20 euro's per year for my hosting solution (I don't get that much traffic). This also provides me with an email solution for my domain (the domain name costs 6.5 euro's extra BTW), but I was thinking of moving email to Google Apps.

Do you have an opinion?
